Hello, fellow Pokémon fans and art lovers from around the world!
If you love Pokémon, you’ve probably heard whispered rumors of a legendary art exhibition happening in Japan: “POKÉMON X KOGEI: Playful Encounters of Pokémon and Japanese Craft.” It’s a jaw-dropping collaboration where top-tier Japanese master artisans use hundreds-of-years-old traditional techniques to bring our favorite Pokémon into the real world.

Why I’m Starting This Series
While the exhibition has had a few limited international stops (like Los Angeles), I know that so many fans worldwide simply cannot travel all the way to Japan or the upcoming venues to see these masterpieces in person.
Having recently experienced the breathtaking energy of this exhibition firsthand at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum, I realized something: Photos of the overall venue just don’t do it justice. The true magic of “Kogei” (Japanese craftsmanship) lies in the microscopic details—the texture of the clay, the chemical reactions on metals, and the mind-blowing secrets hidden in plain sight.
That’s why I am launching this Exclusive Worldwide Blog Series!
What to Expect in This Series
Instead of just a generic summary, I will be taking you on a virtual room-by-room tour of the exhibition. In the coming days, we will explore:
- The Exhibition Order: We will follow the actual path of the museum booth by booth.
- Deep Dives Into Individual Masterpieces: Up-close photos and behind-the-scenes stories of individual Pokémon.
- The Secrets of the Craft: Breaking down the traditional Japanese techniques (like Chokin metalwork, Mokuzogan wood inlay, and Shippo-yaki cloisonné) into simple, fascinating explanations.
From the striking, electric fur of Jolteon to the colored-wood mystery of Beautifly, you are about to see Pokémon like you have never seen them before.
Join the Tour!
I am writing this series specifically for the global community who wishes they could be there. Consider this blog your personal digital ticket to the museum!
Our virtual tour officially kicks off tomorrow with Artwork #1: The Golden Storm (Jolteon).
Make sure to bookmark this blog, follow along, and leave a comment letting me know: Which Pokémon are you hoping to see the most in this traditional craft style?
See you in the next post!
